Online dating in NZ is becoming more and more popular as it becomes socially acceptable to date online. Internet dating used to have a stigma of being ‘only for weirdos’, but people from all walks of life meet their soulmates online every day.
(If you’ve tried online dating before without any success, it may just be that you’ve been on the wrong websites – we highly recommend Elite Singles as the top dating site in NZ.)
The following are a few of the most popular NZ dating sites:
Elite Singles – A high calibre membership and great deals on membership fees, we think this site offers the best bang for buck when it comes to online dating for New Zealanders. You can sign up and take a free personality test which will match you with other compatible singles based on your preferences.
Nzdating.com – arguably the biggest NZ-specific dating site, this is the first stop for many Kiwis who start looking for love online. It has a huge member base and you can contact people for free.
Match.com – one of the most popular paid sites. Match has a very large use base and is more popular with the 30-45 year old crowd.
Badoo – another site popular with the young crowd, although this one doesn’t have as many users as a site like NZD. You can message users for free, but only up to a limit of 20 people in a 24 hour period – if you want to send more messages you have to pay.
FindSomeone – this site was created and run by the same people who set up Trademe, and like the auction site it’s very well run and popular with Kiwis. If you’ve tried Nzdating already, this is the next logical place to set up a profile and it’s very similar to NZD.
Matchfinder NZ – another NZ dating website similar to Match.com. This site is a bit more popular with a 35+ age group so if you’re below that you’re likely to have more luck on NZD or Plenty of Fish.
These sites are all free to sign up for, but in most cases you have to pay to contact people or to upgrade your membership for extra perks.
If you’re only interested in free New Zealand dating sites, check out:
Plenty of Fish – like NZD this has a really impressive number of members and there are people active on it at all hours of the day around NZ. The big difference is that it’s 100% free to contact as many members as you want – the site is paid for by advertising, not users subscriptions. Just watch out for dodgy adverts!
Tinder – while not a website per se, this is a free app you can download and use on any smartphone. It’s quickly becoming popular in NZ and is a good option for the 18-30 age bracket.
